Who is this man from Galilee?

They call Him Jesus—"the Lord who saves us"—

Yet He walks, weary, toward the tree.

Who is this man from Galilee?

A friend of sinners, servant of all,

Now He hangs, beaten, upon a tree.

Who is this man from Galilee?

He walked on water, fed the hungry,

But now He is bound, famished, on this tree.

Who is this man from Galilee?

"Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani!" He cries.

Judas falls, Peter weeps,

The Father turns away—

All forsake this man from Galilee.

Who is this man from Galilee?

A fraud, they say—one who deceives, who mocks,

The son of Beelzebub? Or just a madman? 

The heavens roar, the temple splits,

Prophecy fulfilled—

Mary weeps, John comforts, soldiers tremble,

The King lies lifeless on the tree.

Who is this man from Galilee?

He is the Resurrected One, the Son of God,

The King of Kings, the Prince of Peace,

The Savior of the world—

The God who hung upon a tree.
